Powered exoskeleton

powered exoskeleton (also known as power armorpowered armorpowered suitcybernetic suitcybernetic armorexosuithardsuitexoframe or augmented mobility) is a wearable mobile machine that is powered by a system of electric motorspneumaticslevershydraulics, or a combination of technologies that allow for limb movement with increased strength and endurance. Its design aims to provide back support, sense the user’s motion, and send a signal to motors which manage the gears. The exoskeleton supports the shoulder, waist and thigh, and assists movement for lifting and holding heavy items, while lowering back stress.

A powered exoskeleton differs from a passive exoskeleton due to the fact that a passive exoskeleton is not powered. However, similar to a powered exoskeleton, it does give mechanical benefits to the user. This also explains the difference to orthotics. An orthosis should promote the activity of muscle work and, in the best case, regain it.

Hypercolor – Change color by temperature

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypercolor

Hypercolor was a line of clothing, mainly T-shirts and shorts, that changed color with heat. They were manufactured by Generra Sportswear Company of Seattle and marketed in the United States as Generra Hypercolor or Generra Hypergrafix and elsewhere as Global Hypercolor.

Substances that can change color due to a change in temperature are called thermochromes. There are two common types of thermochromes: liquid crystals (used in mood rings) and leuco dyes (used in Hypercolor T-shirts).

The color change of Hypercolor shirts is based on combination of two colors: the color of the dyed fabric, which remained constant, and the color of the thermochromic dye. Droplets of the thermochromic dye mixture are enclosed in transparent microcapsules, a few micrometers in diameter, bound to the fibers of the fabric.

At low temperatures, the mixture is a solid. The weak acid forms a colored complex with the leuco dye by causing the lactone ring in the center of the dye molecule to open. At high temperatures, above 24–27 °C, the solvent melts and the ammonium salt dissociates, allowing it to react with the weak acid. This reaction increases the pH, which leads to closing of the lactone ring of the dye to convert it to its colorless (leuco) form.

Therefore, at the low temperature the color of the shirt is the combination of the color of the encapsulated colored dye with the color of the dyed fabric, while at higher temperatures the capsules become colorless and the color of the fabric prevails.

Mojo Lens’- world first true…

See the possibilities.

Mojo Lens’ revolutionary design uses a tiny microLED display the size of a grain of sand to share critical information, and smart sensors powered by solid-state batteries built into a scleral lens that also corrects your vision. ALMA Smart Underwear

When symptoms occur, a female will use the smart underwear in order to identify what type of infection is coming. The biosensor placed in the gusset of the underwear, measures pH and other biomarkers present in vaginal fluid. The data is accessible to the user through the phone and if necessary the app directly connects to professionals for medical support.

Our user-centric design process is driven by insights from the ALMA meets Flora survey and co-design workshops. The technology was developed together with our industrial partners, Fraunhofer IZM (Berlin) and Empa (Switzerland) during Re-Fream Project (read our blog) commissioned by EU Horizon 2020 in 2019. In addition to the smart underwear ALMA is building a web-based community platform which will allow users toco-create knowledge around female intimate care.

The physical co-creation process in Berlin (Fraunhofer IZM) lasted from July – when we could travel again – to August. This process was very challenging since Tommaso was supposed to coat the sensor but due to complications in his laboratory at Cambridge, the team had to do all the testing in Berlin without him, with scientists at Fraunhofer IZM. Nonetheless, we successfully built a modular design where the technology is embedded in the gusset of the underwear- where the pH sensor is located- and the data is conducted through some conductive wires to a small case where the electronics are kept. The modularity allows the sensor to be easily removed when washing the garment. The prototype even has wireless communication that can potentially allow a female to access her own information, to know better her body and feel encouraged to seek appropriate help when needed.

A Japanese robotics startup has invented a smart mask that translates into eight languages.

(CNN Business)When the Covid-19 pandemic made face masks an everyday essential, Japanese startup Donut Robotics spotted an opportunity. They created a smart mask — a high-tech upgrade to standard face coverings, designed to make communication and social distancing easier. In conjunction with an app, the C-Face Smart mask can transcribe dictation, amplify the wearer’s voice, and translate speech into eight different languages.

The cutouts on the front are vital for breathability, so the smart mask doesn’t offer protection against the coronavirus. Instead, it is designed to be worn over a standard face mask, explains Donut Robotics CEO Taisuke Ono. Made of white plastic and silicone, it has an embedded microphone that connects to the wearer’s smartphone via Bluetooth. The system can translate between Japanese and Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Indonesian, English, Spanish and French.
